Several interesting events are scheduled for the upcoming weeks at the Medical Center.
Thursday-Friday, Dec. 6-7
Participants in the Medical Center's quarterly blood drive scheduled from Thursday-Friday, Dec. 6-7, will be registered for a drawing for a parking space on campus.
The winner of the parking space drawing will be randomly selected from among all UMMC faculty, staff and students who participate in the blood drive. The winner will have parking privileges in the designated campus parking space for the quarter beginning Tuesday, Jan. 1.
The UMMC blood drive is scheduled from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, in the MBS donor coach between the Guyton Research Center and the Z Building and from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, in the MBS donor coach on the Bailey Avenue side of the Jackson Medical Mall.
Photo identification is required to donate. Mississippi Blood Services suggests all donors eat within four hours of giving blood and drink plenty of fluids before and after the donation.

Friday, Dec. 7
Dr. Scott Rodgers, professor and chair of psychiatry and human behavior, and Dr. Julie Schumacher-Coffey, professor and vice chair of education in the Department of Psychiatry, will give the Psychiatry Grand Rounds presentation, "A Discussion of 'Shrinks: The Untold Story of Psychiatry' by Jeff Lieberman, M.D.," at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 7, in room CW 308 of the Classroom Wing.

Dr. Sachin Kedar, associate professor of neurology and ophthalmology and program director of the neurology residency at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, will present the eighth annual James J. Corbett M.D. Lecture in Neuro-Ophthalmology, "The Brain and the Eye: A Hunt for Biomarkers," at noon on Friday, Dec. 7, in lecture room 1B in the School of Health Related Professions.

Barbara Mustain, retired chair of the Religion Department at St. Joseph Catholic School, will present "Celebrating Joy: Christmas Traditions," at noon on Monday, Dec. 10, in room R153 (lower amphitheatre).
Lunch will be available to the first 50 in attendance. The presentation is sponsored by the UMMC Faith Forum, the ASB Diversity and Inclusion Committee, the Office of Diversity and Inclusion and the Center for Bioethics and Medical Humanities.
Dr. Prasad V G Katakam, associate professor of pharmacology at Tulane University, New Orleans, Louisiana, will present the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology seminar, "Novel Mitochondrial Actions of Nitric Oxide Synthase Isoforms," at noon on Monday, Dec. 10, in room 6A.
